The idea of sitting your children down in front of the TV may be preferable to spending hours at a time with brushes and oil paints, but introducing them to creative arts is just as important. Here are some fun ways you can get your kids to enjoy art.

Try drawing with Your Child

Did you know that taking part in an activity yourself helps your child enjoy it? They will much more readily pick up pen and paper when they see their parents drawing for pleasure instead of merely doodling when bored. Additionally, encourage them by saying, “I wish I could draw like you.” None of this forces them into taking lessons; merely lead by example.

Get Messy!

Children love getting messy. Whether fingerpainting or watercolors, your children will love to get creative without worrying about their clothes. Try making slime, which can be made simply by mixing glue and food coloring in a plastic bag with some bicarbonate of soda. You can also try shaving cream art, where they create pictures by blowing the shaving cream onto the paper.

Encourage them to Follow Fashion

Speaking of fashion. If you want to encourage your child to appreciate the arts. Let them dress how they like! They are likely already dressed up in superhero costumes or princess dresses. Why not let them express themselves through their fashion? Let them wear what makes them happy while encouraging their talents in the arts. Dressing up in costumes doesn’t have to be limited to Halloween!

Do the Quiz Together

You must try and learn about art yourself. Why not do some research on one of the many paintings your children are likely to ask about? Alternatively, try doing an online test with them. Perhaps they will appreciate art more if they understand what goes into it. Once again, lead by example.

Get Out There

As well as using your own free time for artistic expression, make sure to take your kids out too! Plenty of sports events incorporates visual arts, such as horse racing, where racehorses are decorated with jockey silks made by local artists. Children love animals, so why not visit some farm animals at a local petting zoo?

Ask Your Child

Children enjoy being asked their opinions. So why not ask them what they think of a television show you have been watching or a book you have read. Let them tell you how to do origami. Or which colors to use when drawing a picture for a family member’s birthday present. They will feel pleased that you are interested in their interests and become more willing to talk about the arts with you.

Go Out for Fine Dining Together

Perhaps the most important way to encourage your child is by eating out at classy restaurants! This allows both of you to appreciate fancy food and drink while enjoying each other’s company.

Asking questions such as “What did you like best?” or “What would you change?” will help your child express. It is also a good idea to choose somewhere where the room’s main focal point is a painting, which you can talk about while waiting for your food.

In conclusion

Encouraging children to appreciate art can be rewarding in many ways. Particularly if they study creative arts at college or university because it means that not only have they found a hobby, but they have honed their skills and allowed their creativity free reign!
